Based on the testimony I read, I believe…

…that Tom Robinson is not guilty in the case of Mayella Ewell’s rape. This is because of the way the witnesses for the prosecution acted versus the way Tom Robinson acted. The witnesses of the prosecution side, including Heck Tate, Bob Ewell and Mayella Ewell, were constantly trying to dodge questions and answer them indirectly. For example, Heck Tate corrected himself to say that Mayella was beaten up in her right eye. Mayella is probably the most uncooperative witness during a cross examination, as she even goes so far as to accuse everyone in the courtroom of being cowards and even refused to answer some of Atticus’ questions near the end of her hearing. On the other hand, although Tom Robinson shows some discomfort and hesitation towards answering some of the questions, he pushes himself to answer them despite his supposed embarrassment. For example, he is clearly discomforted to describe how Mayella harassed him, but with a little bit of pushing, he gets it out.
